Alken-Maes places sustainable entrepreneurship high up on the agenda

Recently the Alken brewery has put a solar energy system into service. The plant comprises 6.000 solar panels with a joint capacity of 1.463 kWp. This investment makes part of a broader Alken-Maes project concerning corporate social responsibility. Among other objectives it focuses on energy-efficient production. The solar panels deliver an annual production of 1.338 MWh – the mean energy consumption of about 440 families. Adding this to the yield of a cogenerator plant commissioned in 2009, the Alken brewery now takes care of a quarter of its own electricity consumption. With these plants Alken-Maes hosts the largest solar energy system of any brewery in Europe.
